- Client: Australian Clinical Labs (ACL)
- Location: Geelong, Victoria
- Industry: Healthcare / Pathology
- Equipment Protected: Siemens Atellica Solution Analysers
- Solution: 3 x Eaton UPS units on mobile trolley
- Referral: Siemens Healthineers
The Challenge
Australian Clinical Labs operates one of the largest networks of pathology laboratories across Australia, processing millions of diagnostic tests annually. Their Geelong facility relies on Siemens Atellica Solution analysers for high-volume immunoassay and clinical chemistry testing.
These sophisticated diagnostic instruments are highly sensitive to power quality issues. Even brief power interruptions or voltage fluctuations can disrupt testing cycles, potentially compromising sample integrity and causing significant delays in delivering critical patient results.
ACL required a UPS solution that would provide reliable power protection while accommodating the specific electrical requirements of the Atellica analysers and the physical constraints of their laboratory environment.
The Solution
NPS was engaged on the recommendation of Siemens Healthineers, who recognised NPS’s extensive experience in providing power protection solutions for Atellica analysers across multiple healthcare facilities.
Drawing on this expertise, NPS designed a custom solution comprising three Eaton UPS units mounted on an Eaton-supplied mobile trolley. This configuration provides dedicated power protection for the analyser system while allowing flexibility for equipment repositioning and maintenance access.
Key features of the installation:
- Mobile trolley configuration allowing the UPS system to be positioned optimally within the laboratory space and easily relocated for cleaning or equipment servicing
- Three independent UPS units providing dedicated protection for each component of the ATS Unit 2 configuration
- Professional cabling installation with 6mm² 2C+E flexible cable and mechanical protection via corrugated conduit where required
- Full compliance with AS/NZS 3000:2018 including mechanical protection requirements for exposed wiring systems
The Result
The installation was completed efficiently with minimal disruption to laboratory operations. All three UPS units were commissioned strictly in accordance with Eaton manufacturer specifications, with verified input supply, output voltage, polarity, and operational status confirmed under load conditions.
The system was handed over in full operational condition with no faults present, providing Australian Clinical Labs with reliable power protection for their critical diagnostic equipment.
This project demonstrates NPS’s ability to deliver tailored power protection solutions for sensitive healthcare equipment, working collaboratively with equipment manufacturers to ensure optimal outcomes for end users.
