ePDU G3 recognized for best-in-class efficiency and reliability

ePDU-basic-274x153Eaton’s ePDU® third-generation (G3) platform received a 2014 Data Center Excellence Award from infoTECH Spotlight and a 2015 Product of the Year Award from INTERNET TELEPHONY. Both award programs are presented by TMC, a news platform covering the communications and technology industries. The Data Center Excellence awards recognize the most innovative and enterprising data center vendors who offer infrastructure or software, servers or cooling systems, and cabling or management applications. The INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year awards recognize exceptional VoIP and IP communications products and services.

Given the budget and resource constraints faced by many of today’s data centers and colocation facilities, power monitoring provides a strategic and cost-saving asset. The highly efficient and reliable ePDU G3 platform, Eaton’s latest portfolio of rack power distribution units (PDUs), is designed to streamline the power distribution needs of today’s information technology (IT) and data center managers with next-generation power monitoring capabilities.

“Eaton has displayed its commitment to quality and innovation in the development of the data center industry,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “I look forward to witnessing continued excellence from Eaton and their efforts toward improving the future of the data center industry.”

All Eaton ePDU G3 models feature a new patent-pending International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) outlet grip designed to eliminate the common and often costly problem of plugs falling out of outlets due to bumps or vibrations. The solution can protect data center managers from incurring additional expenses related to cable trays or special power cords, which can increase purchase costs by several hundred dollars per unit.

Network connected ePDU G3 models are optimized to work with Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software™, offering end-users an integrated power management platform to monitor multiple units through virtualization systems like VMware® vCenter Server™. Eaton ePDU G3 managed models are designed to allow data center and IT managers to precisely measure power consumption at all outlets for full-power utilization. With the capability to hone in on energy usage, data centers can increase power savings by shutting down certain servers at different times of the day.

Eaton ePDU G3 managed and metered input models also offer a hot-swap network meter module so that, in the unlikely event of a failure, users can replace the module without shutting down servers; therefore, maintaining business continuity and enhancing serviceability.
